Delicious Daiquiris

What makes a daiquiri a daiquiri?  The rum!  This tastiness was born out of mere convenience.  American Engineer Jennings Cox ran out of gin whilst entertaining guests.  He grabbed what was on hand at the time: rum, citrus, and sugar.  He then proceeded to pour it over ice and add mineral water…. Voilà!

Fresh and easy is better, friends, so for goodness' sake, put down the premade mix! You’ve got this! (Worried about your frozen drink sweating? No problem! Put down some coasters!)

Classic Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

You will need:

  • 1 cup white or light rum
  • 1 pound of frozen strawberries
  • 6 tablespoons simple syrup (or pure maple syrup)
  • ¼ cup lime juice
  • ⅛ teaspoon kosher salt

Place all ingredients in a blender, top with about 1 cup of ice, and blend. Pour into four glasses. Add a slice of lime and strawberry to garnish. Enjoy! The higher the quality of rum and strawberries, the better the drink will be!

Frozen Mango Daiquiri

Tropical, colorful, pretty, sweet, yet tart.   We give you…the Frozen Mango Daquiri!

You will need:

  • 4 oz. (½ cup) rum (aged rum is best)
  • 2 oz. (¼ cup) triple sec or Cointreau
  • 2 cups frozen mango cubes
  • 2 oz. (¼ cup) lime juice

Place all ingredients in a blender, top with about 1 cup of ice, and blend until smooth. Pour into your favorite glasses and garnish with a lime wheel or cocktail cherry.

Frozen Mango Daquiri

Banana Daiquiri

Naked banana, zesty lime, a hint of orange liquor, and the oaky notes of aged rum creep onto those taste buds and into your happy place.

You will need:

  • 4 oz. rum (aged rum is best)
  • 2 oz. Cointreau or triple sec
  • 2 fresh, ripe bananas
  • 2 oz. lime juice
  • ½ to 1 oz. simple syrup (depending on how ripe the bananas are)

If you have time, slice the bananas and freeze them for 1 to 2 hours. Or use fresh banana and 2 cups of ice instead of 1 ½ cups when blending.

Combine all ingredients in a blender (starting with ½ ounce simple syrup) and blend until smooth. Taste and add the additional syrup if desired, depending on the sweetness of the fruit. Top with a cocktail cherry or lime wheel. Serve immediately! Makes 3 medium or 2 large portions.

Super delicious, low-calorie fruity cocktails

It’s springtime, and many of us are watching our calories so we can fit into a certain swimsuit or special-occasion dress in a few weeks. These super-delicious, low-calorie cocktails allow you to still indulge in some fun. And you don’t have to blow your calorie budget!

Here are our general tips for turning a drink low-calorie:

  • Choose a spirit that is clear instead of dark. Say yes to vodka, gin, tequila, and white wine. Say no to whiskeys, mixers like cacao or triple sec, and red wines.
  • Choose diet soda and seltzer as mixers instead of juice that is full of sugar. For example, using orange juice is going to give you an extra 100 calories that you can easily avoid.
  • Use sugar substitutes instead of real sugar when making simple syrup.
  • Choose real fruit (including frozen fruit!) as garnish and enhancements. But stay away from blending entire pints of fruit or using fruit that is canned or packed in syrup.
  • Choose your fruit wisely. One cup of bananas is 200 calories. Your lowest-calorie fruits are strawberries, peaches, honeydew, grapes, and blackberries. And they’re all delicious in a mixed drink!

Refreshing Lime-Mint Kombucha and Vodka

Kombucha (fermented tea) is a wonderful source of probiotics and antioxidants. It even lowers the risk for heart disease in some people. It’s a great zero-calorie item to add to a cocktail as a mixer, and it usually has fruit added to it already! Plus it’s fizzy and bubbly. Yum!

You will need:

  •  ½ cup vodka
  • 1 bottle of Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc
  •  24-30 mint leaves
  •  ¾ oz. orange juice
  •  8 oz. kombucha (lime-mint flavor is preferred for this recipe if you can find it)
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Ninety-one calories per glass.  First, add the mint leaves to a large pitcher with the orange juice and muddle until you release some fabulous mint flavor. Next, add the kombucha, vodka, honey, and white wine. Stir, don’t shake! Serve in a beautiful glass over ice. Note: This recipe makes about 6 glasses. (Differentiate your guests’ glasses with these glass charms!)
