1792 Ridgemont Reserve Bourbon comes from the oldest operating distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. The Barton 1792 distillery was founded in 1879 and continues to operate today. That fact alone should tell you that they know what they are doing when it comes to bourbon. 1792 Bourbon is made with Barton 1792’s signature high-rye mash and a premium combination of barrels for aging. The mash bill consists of 75 percent corn, 15 percent rye, and 10 percent barley. It is part of a line of small-batch bourbons aimed at the high-end liquor market. It is sold at 93.7 U.S. proof.
At first sniff, this bourbon presents with notes of leather, pepper, citrus zest, and a bit of cocoa. There is a hint of ethyl that may be momentarily off-putting, but after the initial smell, a subtle sweetness emerges. The taste profile of this bourbon is often described as delicate, with just a hint of sometimes unbalanced acidity. It has a definite opening feel of heat and spice. Sweet vanilla and caramel are melded together with the spice. The bourbon has a hint of woodiness but remains smooth on the palate, sometimes described as velvety in texture. This delicious bourbon also boasts mild hints of mint and tobacco, for a truly unique taste that is dressed to impress. We highly recommend drinking this in a Glencairn Glass for the full effect.
This fragrant and smooth bourbon is reasonably priced as well, ranging from $30 to $70. We think that is a fair price for a bourbon that packs a punch in its flavor profile like Ridgemont Reserve.
