Turn a dull December evening into a party in the kitchen with these winter cocktail recipes! When it’s a frozen tundra outside, you can turn to your home bar for warmth. Blustery cold and blinding blizzards can’t compete with the warmth of whiskey. If you’re hunkering down for the biggest snowfall of the year, you’ll definitely want these three winter cocktails on your menu.

If you can’t get down with hot cocoa this winter, well, what can you get down with? It’s a winter staple. When cheeks are nice and rosy, get nice and cozy--with a mug full of indulgent chocolate and delicious whiskey. And the folks at Whiskey Moments suggest some other key ingredients in their recipe:
Whiskey Flavored Hot Chocolate Recipe1/4 c. Cocoa powder 2 c. Milk 2 pinches Cayenne pepper 3 oz. Whiskey Mint leaves Marshmallows Caramel
Pour cocoa powder, milk, and cayenne into a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk until steaming. Add whiskey and pour into cups. Garnish with mint leaves, marshmallows, and caramel. |
Leave the figgy pudding behind, but bring on “The Figgy-Orange” from Food & Wine. We’ve vetted these winter cocktails, and this one is a winter winner. It brings the seasonal fruits, and we think you’ll keep coming back for another. And another.
The Figgy-Orange RecipeIce 2 oz. Bourbon ½ oz. Punt e Mes 1 Tbsp. Fresh orange juice ½ Tbsp. Simple syrup 4 dashes Figgy-Orange Bitters Fresh nutmeg Combine bourbon, Punt e Mes, fresh orange juice, simple syrup, and bitters in an ice-filled shaker. Shake well. Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with grated fresh nutmeg. |
This is an easy and memorable one, ladies and gents. You will need a little extra time to do it right, though, so plan ahead. We’re snuggling up close to this whisky (without the e) cocktail from the magazine Saveur. They believe in the friendship between cinnamon and honey, and they’re all about that smoky Scotch flavor that warms us right up during the wintertime. Check out their recipe below!
Cinnamon-Honey Scotch Sour RecipeFor the Cinnamon-Honey Syrup Water 2 Cinnamon sticks 1 c. Honey To make the syrup, bring 1 cup of water to a boil, along with the cinnamon sticks, in a small saucepan. Remove it from the heat and let sit for about 10 minutes. Stir in honey and refrigerate overnight. The next day, discard the cinnamon sticks. For the Cocktail Ice 2 oz. Blended Scotch 1 oz. Fresh lemon juice ¾ oz. Cinnamon-honey syrup To make the cocktail itself, combine the blended Scotch, fresh lemon juice, and cinnamon-honey syrup in an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously. The pour into a rocks glass over ice. |
