A Knob Creek Single Barrel Review

Knob Creek is one of Jim Beam’s Small Batch Bourbon series. Knob Creek produces their whiskeys by (in their own words) …” selecting the finest grains. And we finish by meticulously aging our whiskey in white oak barrels with maximum char, for an unmistakable richness and signature sweetness.” The Knob Creek line consists of several different types of whiskey including Small Batch, Rye, Smoked Maple, and Limited-Release 25th Anniversary and 2001 editions. In today’s article, we will present an unbiased, informative review of Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve Whiskey. Here at Prestige Haus we love to bring you the most recent and accurate knowledge of your favorite spirits.

A Flavorful Intense Experience

Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve was introduced to the whiskey game in 2010. Its website boasts that their “...distillers handpick exceptional barrels to be enjoyed in their full, unblended glory.” This single barrel whiskey is bottled at a strength of 120 proof (60% ABV) and carries an age statement of nine years. Knob Creek’s own tasting notes follow.

Color: deep amber, henna
Nose: smoky, vanilla, caramel

Taste: complex; vanilla, nuts, oak

Finish: long and full

For another take, we turned to this review from Malt.

Color: Golden brown

Nose: Woody and herbal, with notes of pine needles, paprika, nutmeg, thyme, and anise scents

Taste: Rich, woody; iced tea with lemon; limestone

Finish: Lingering, pine

Finally, here’s a summary of a review from The Spruce Eats. They suggest adding a few drops of water to bring out this whiskey’s full potential.

Nose: Warm honey, oak, and spicy rye

Taste: Vanilla, oak wood, and a hint of nuttiness; lingering chocolate flavor; robust fruitiness

Finish: Lingering, woody

Our take? At around $60 per bottle, Knob Creek Barrel Reserve is definitely a whiskey to try. But it’s a high-alcohol whiskey that we do not recommend for the faint of heart. The flavor is unique and robust, and worth adding to your list.

“After a chilly evening passing out candy from a socially distanced safe distance, it’s time to warm up with some @knobcreek Single Barrel Reserve 120 proof bourbon. To me, the aroma has lots of oak and leather in it with some hints of brown sugar and vanilla. The taste is smooth and deceptively sweet, not what would be expected from the aroma. Tons of flavor with a really nice, really warm finish.”--@whiskey_mark
