Some Hemingway History

Ernest
Hemingway notably said, “Don’t bother with churches, government buildings or
city squares. If you want to know about a culture, spend a night in its bars.”
Cheers, Ernest. We’re down with your theory. We believe it.

If you don’t
already know, Hemingway was a cocktail enthusiast, to say the least. He was
quite a prolific drinker. He’s still a literary giant, a writer whose world
travels and love for liquor appear in countless novels and short stories. If
you ask us who we’d like to sit down and chat with--alive or dead--we might
pick Mr. Hemingway. Yeah, that’d be sweet.

He frequented many bars. It makes sense that bartenders around the globe would draw attention to one of their most legendary visitors. The name sold drinks. Who are we kidding? The name still sells drinks. If it was good enough for Hemingway, it’s damn sure good enough for us.

The story goes
that after having a sip of this famous recipe, Hemingway wanted another with
less sugar. And doubled up on the rum! You, of course, can indulge his wishes
if you want. Today, we’ll give you the recipe that restaurants, bars, and clubs
serve. Ernest liked his alcohol. And we do, too. But, you know, we appreciate
more of a balance.

Over the years,
bartenders couldn't sell the Papa Doble that Hemingway craved. So to make the
cocktail appealing to the masses, they added maraschino liqueur and some
grapefruit juice. So here’s that beloved Hemingway daiquiri recipe now.
