What makes it blended malt Scotch whisky? We’ll dive into the facts today. We’ll define the term “blended malt Scotch” and share a few tasting notes. We’re all about whiskey education in general here at Prestige. So, count on us for a detailed pour of Scotch knowledge.

What Is Blended Malt Scotch Whisky?

Like single malt whisky, blended malt is made primarily in Scotland. But of
course, many Japanese brands and independent bottlers get in on this action,
too.

Blended malts comprise single malt whiskies that come from at least two
distilleries. There’s no limit, either. You might have single malts coming from
three distilleries, or sixteen, or even more than that. These give you your
blend. With Scotch, legally, blended malts must be aged for three years
minimum.

Blended malt Scotch whisky is celebrated for a reason. Master blenders take on quite a challenge when they enter this whisky ring. They must make various distilleries’ single malts sing together. The sum must be even greater than its already-great parts. Blended malt Scotches are some of the most innovative whiskies out there. You’re pouring science and straight-up art from your whisky decanter. (And with our artful decanters, it’s truly like letting art flow forth from art, right?)

Other Names for Blended Malt Scotch

On some older Scotch bottles, you may see blended malts go by other names. Labels like “pure malt” or “vatted malt” can appear. So don’t be confused if you see those alternate tags.

Blended Malt Is Not Blended Whiskey

Blended whiskey can contain single grain whisky in addition to single malt
whisky.

On the other hand, blended malt Scotch whisky only includes multiple distilleries’ single malt Scotches.

What’s the Flavor of Blended Malt Scotch Whisky?

What a world of flavor you can experience with blended malts. The Islay influence
brings salty seaweed and smoky peat. You might also meet with Speyside notes of
